Christine M. Wetzel, MSN, RN, IBCLC

Christine M. Wetzel, MSN, RN, IBCLC, is a staff nurse at Carle Hospital in Urbana, Illinois, and has been interested in NEC since becoming a NICU nurse. She has seen what NEC does to the babies. She pursued additional education, including becoming a lactation consultant, because of NEC and the broad benefits of human milk to babies. This area of interest progressed over the years and prompted her to develop, implement and test the e-NEC tool with the help of her nursing colleagues at Carle Hospital. She hopes this tool helps others nurses develop greater awareness of babies at risk for feeding intolerance and NEC.
